Starwood Solera Single Malt

Starwood Solera Single Malt

Starwood Solera is a Melbourne Australia single malt.  Having lived in Australia for 4 years, we had tried a couple of Australian single malts but with little success, however, as this was on special, we thought we better buy a bottle and see what it was like, having never tried it.

It is a dark whisky, but not peaty in fact it is fruity, not quite what I was expecting, but not bad.  It is not up there with the more traditional whiskies, but it is better than the Australian whiskies I have had before.  Score out of 5? 3

Here is what the Masters of Malt have to say about it: -

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Prune juice and seedless raisins provide a thick, sherry-forward sweetness that is complemented by rich caramel and toasted almonds. A little marzipan lingers underneath.

Palate: A rich, but well-balanced palate begins with toasted oak and more jammy fruit compote – damsons, black currants, and dried figs – before creme Brule, milky coffee and winter spice notes emerge.

Finish: There is a little sawdust and milk chocolate as the dram concludes.

Remarkably fruity and beautifully composed – this is a seriously good whisky.
